Major changes in FEDEX surcharges in 2025

U.S. import processing fees

Beginning January 13, 2025, all international shipments imported into the United States, except for FedEx International eCommerce shipments, will be subject to fees associated with customs clearance processing.

In other words, IE, IP, IEF, IPF, etc. will charge this fee

Minimum charge is 18 kg

All parcels with irregular shapes or one side exceeding 1.2 meters/secondary side exceeding 76 cm/circumference exceeding 266 cm will be charged at a minimum of 18 kg

additional service charge

Effective January 13, 2025, all international packages that qualify for the Additional Service Charge – Size will be chargedAt least 18 kg(or 40 pounds) for billing. The other assessment criteria currently used to determine the applicability of these additional service charges remain unchanged.

(Note: If a FedEx package is subject to an Oversized Shipment Charge or Additional Service Charge – Packaging, and also meets the criteria for Additional Service Charge – Dimensions, the Additional Service Charge – Dimensions minimum billable weight of 18 kg (40 lbs) will still apply. This means that it will be applied even if the Additional Handling Charge – Dimensions itself is not charged.)

Any package that meets the following criteria will be subject to an additional service fee:

size\*

  1. The maximum side length of the package exceeds 121 cm;
  2. The second largest side of the package exceeds 76 cm; or
  3. The length and circumference are greater than 266 cm (length + width x2 + height x2).

*Subject to 18kg minimum chargeable weight conditions.

weight

  1. Actual weight is greater than 31 kg.

Package\*

  1. Not completely wrapped in a courier box;
  2. Wrapped in a courier box of non-corrugated cardboard, corrugated cardboard material including but not limited to metal, wood, canvas, leather, hard plastic, soft plastic or foam plastic;
  3. Use stretch and shrink film to wrap express boxes;
  4. Mailing of round or cylindrical items, including but not limited to tubes, cans, barrels, rollers, tires, drums or pails;
  5. The package is bundled with metal, plastic or cloth strips; or the package contains wheels, casters, handles or ropes (e.g. bicycles) (including packages with loose or protruding outer surfaces); or
  6. May cause entanglement, damage to other packages or FedEx's sorting system.

*If a FedEx package is subject to Additional Service Charge – Packaging and also meets the criteria for Additional Service Charge – Dimensions, the Additional Service Charge – Dimensions minimum chargeable weight of 18 kg (40 lbs) will still apply.
