Oman’s Salalah port has resumed container operations, but liquid cargo transport remains suspended.

According to an update from Inchcape Shipping Services on March 17, CT and GCT container operations at Oman's Salalah Port have resumed. However, liquid cargo operations have not yet resumed and remain suspended.

What is the value of this message?

In recent days, the market has been quite sensitive to the operational status of ports in Oman and the Gulf region. Many customers were most worried that if ports were to shut down, their cargo would either be stuck at the ports or forced to change ports. Now that Salalah's container business has resumed, it at least indicates that some container cargo flow is beginning to return to normal, which is a relatively positive signal for cargo owners who need to use ports in southern Oman.

However, this is not a "full recovery." If your cargo is liquid, chemical liquid, or relies on relevant terminal resources, the current restrictions will still apply, and you cannot proceed as normal.

Impact on shipping arrangements

  • ordinary container cargoBooking and transit arrangements via Salalah can be reassessed.
  • Liquid cargoFurther confirmation is still needed regarding alternative ports, port relocation plans, or postponement plans.
  • Timeliness judgmentEven if business resumes, previous backlogs and regional risks may still cause fluctuations in shipping schedules and container release/pickup efficiency.

CZL Reminder

  1. Container cargo and liquid cargo are judged separately.Do not assume that everything will be restored just because you see "Resumption of Operation".
  2. In the early stages of recovery, it is even more important to confirm the first-hand information from shipping companies and terminals.Especially the arrangements for customs clearance, berthing, and transshipment.
  3. If clients are considering alternative routes in the Middle East, they can compare nodes such as Sohar and Salalah to see which option is more stable.
  4. When calculating the overall cost, you can first refer to CZL's...Freight InquiryandAdditional Fee Inquirypage.
