FedEx has just issued two fee adjustment notices; sellers in the EU and US markets should take note.
Adjustment to customs clearance assistance service fees – effective July 20th
Starting July 20th, the following fees will be adjusted:
- Advance payment/handling fee paymentCustoms duties and taxes prepaid
- Cash on delivery handling fee(Customs processing fee)
This fee is charged by FedEx when it advances customs duties and taxes on behalf of the customer during the customs clearance process. Shipments with automatic credit card payment for customs duties and taxes set up are not affected.
Import processing fees adjusted – effective August 3
Two changes:
- ""US Import Processing Fee" has been officially renamed "Import Processing Fee""
- This fee now has a new scope of application:All shipments destined for EU member states
All 27 EU member states are affected. However, shipments between EU member states are not subject to this rule.
Impact on sellers
For sellers in the EU market, starting August 3rd, each shipment will incur an additional import processing fee. This fee is related to our previous report on the EU's removal of the €150 tariff exemption (see details). Starting July 1st, the EU will remove tariff exemptions for parcels under €150.As a result, logistics costs to the EU are continuing to rise.
It is recommended to calculate costs in advance and include any new expenses in the pricing.
