How is international express delivery billed?

International Express Measurement Video:Why are the dimensions measured by the shipper often different from those measured by the freight forwarder?

International express delivery charges will be based on the actual weight and volumetric weight, whichever is greater;

The actual weight refers to the weight of the package, the decimal part of the calculated value is reduced by half of the kilograms.
Volumetric weight is determined based on the density of the shipment, that is, the actual weight of the shipment per unit volume.
The billable weight is the weight used to calculate the rate. The billable weight may be greater than the actual weight or volume weight of the package.

Volumetric weight calculation method: length * width * height / 5000. For example, for a 30*30*40 piece of cargo, the volumetric weight is 30*30*40/5000 = 7.2KG (the size is in cm, and the unit is rounded up to 1cm. For example, 16.4cm is calculated as 17cm);

PS: Please note that the measurement method for international express delivery is different from that for domestic delivery.The irregular package will be treated as a regular rectangular box. The length, width and height of the package are measured from the point farthest from the center. For example, the following figure

Shipping costs are then calculated based on country and billing weight.

Multiple items per ticket:

  1. For UPS/FEDEX/DHL, if there are multiple pieces in one shipment, the larger weight will be taken and then rounded up. Then the chargeable weight of each piece will be added up to get the total chargeable weight. For example:

The volumetric weight of the first box is 19.8KG, which is heavier than its actual weight. Therefore, the chargeable weight of this box is 20KG. The actual weight of the second box is 26KG, which is heavier than its volumetric weight. Therefore, the chargeable weight is 26KG. By analogy, the total chargeable weight is 20+26+16+22, which is 84KG.

2. DHL's billing method is to round up the price per piece, but not the larger one;This billing method has been invalidated, and express routes are now charged using the first method.

For example, in the picture above, the actual weight of DHL is: 12.5+26+10+22=70.5KG=71KG; the volumetric weight is: 20+21+16+19=76KG; so if this ticket is sent by DHL, the billable weight is 76KG.
