INTRODUCTION OF DHL EXPRESS DEMAND SURCHARGE

To ensure operational continuity during periods of high demand, we will apply a Demand Surcharge from 15 September 2024 to 31 January 2025 (this is the expected collection period; if it is adjusted, 30 days’ advance notice will be posted on the DHL Express website). The Demand Surcharge will apply to DHL international time-definite express products (including DHL Express Worldwide, DHL Express 9:00, DHL Express 10:30, DHL Express 12:00, DHL Breakbulk Express, DHL Medical Express, and DHL Express Easy). Shipments sent by customers during the above period, including any adjusted period, will be subject to the applicable Demand Surcharge.
To ensure operational continuity during a period of high demand, we will be activating a Demand Surcharge effective 15 September 2024 until 31 January 2025 (This is the expected collection period. If there were any adjustments on such expected collection period, the advance 30 days’ notice will be available on the DHL Express website). The Demand Surcharge will be levied on DHL Express Worldwide, DHL Express 12:00, DHL Express 10:30, DHL Express 9:00, DHL Medical Express, DHL Breakbulk Express, DHL Express Easy shipments. Customers delivering the shipments during this above period and its adjustment (if any) will be deemed to accept the Demand Surcharge for the above period and its adjustment (if any).

During periods of high demand, shipment volumes significantly exceed the capacity of DHL’s base network. In addition, global trade has become increasingly unpredictable, volatile, and challenging in recent years. The Demand Surcharge enables us to allocate additional resources and capacity as needed to adapt to these changing global market conditions, allowing us to continue providing excellent service to you and your customers during this period. The Demand Surcharge also helps us cover the costs associated with responding to changing global market conditions.
During periods of high demand, the shipment volume materially exceeds DHL’s base level of network capacity. In addition to that, recent years have seen global trade becoming increasingly unpredictable, volatile and challenging. Introducing the Demand Surcharge allows us to allocate additional resource and capacity where needed to accommodate these global dynamics which enables us to continue delivering the excellent service to you and your customers during such periods. And the Demand Surcharge supports the recovery of the costs associated with managing a more dynamic global network.
The Demand Surcharge, also known as the peak season surcharge, is a common surcharge that has been used in the logistics industry for many years.

How is this surcharge calculated?

The Demand Surcharge will be charged per kilogram in RMB, based on the origin and destination. Please visit the DHL Express website for the specific rates and amounts of the Demand Surcharge. Please note that the Demand Surcharge is included in the fuel surcharge calculation base.
The Demand Surcharge will apply per shipment in RMB per kg according to the origin and destination. Please refer to the DHL Express website for specific charging standards and amount for the Demand Surcharge. Please note that Fuel Surcharge is applicable to the Demand Surcharge.
DHL reserves the right to modify the Demand Surcharge amounts and dates of application as needed. Any changes to the surcharge amount or applicable dates will be announced on the DHL Express website 30 days in advance.
